BTS images from my last project

Here are a couple of BTS images from my last project with Sofia S. and Emilie K. I will give all the details later when the final pictures come online.

This project was actually shot a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately I've been so stressed out I haven't had the opportunity to publish anything until now. When we finished this shoot off, I practically ran to the train station for a 2 week spree of conferences, meetings and courses all over Sweden. But now I 'm home and I'm getting a nice flow with the retouching. Hopefully you will see some ready pictures soon.

Cheers.

A couple more from my mountain series, sometimes it can be really hard to capture the grandness of mountains or nature in general but with these images at least I can feel how tiny I felt in comparison to mother nature.

Wedding photography, mingle pictures (part 1)

As promised in this post here is a sample of the documentary style photographs I created during the ceremony and party on the wedding gig I did this summer.

I wasn't to sure I would like the whole wedding photography deal, it's very stressful and you have a very high responsibility, but now afterwards I can say it was great experience.

If you have any questions or just like the series please comment below.

Urban fashion, Susanne

Model: Susanne.
Design & styling: Emilie
Photography & retouching: me Mårten Keijser

I was planning to get these images online last week but unfortunately I was struck with a terrible stomach flu forcing me to stay in bed all weekend. But that's all history now.

I'm as usual very happy with the result, but please, if you have any comments do share below. There are some interesting photoshop action going on that I could talk about, but I will only bother with a tutorial if there is some popular demand for it...

Wedding photography, couple portraits

Here are a few sample portraits from my flirtation with wedding photography this summer. The portraits are of course published with permission from the couple.

The project was a full wedding coverage, including documenting the ceremony and the dinner and party as well as a large series of organized portraits (both including and excluding their children). I would say I covered pretty much everything except bride preparation, which is a bit of a shame but the logistics didn't allow for that. Anyhow, it was a great experience and a totally lovely day and I hope the images will translate that feeling.

In this post I'm only sharing a few of the couple portraits, I will make another post later with samples from the rest of the images.

Bts images from yesterday

Despite having a crazy amount of images to process from my vacation last week and the wedding I mentioned in the last post I actually managed to squeeze in a shoot with super great and very professional model Susanne. It wasn't a very big project but the dress from Emilie looked extremely good and from what I can see this early, the images will turn out super.

Back from vacation

I came home from a great vacation a while ago. It was sort of a family reunion in the mountainous part of northern Sweden and Norway. Extremely beautiful landscapes and I'll make sure to post some images here soon.

Right now however priority nr 1 is to finnish of the batch of wedding pictures that I also took during my vacation. That's right, I accepted a wedding assignment this summer. I will tell you more about it in a later post, but I can say this much: it was a great challenge and learning experience and ofcourse (luckely) the images are really beautiful.

Fashion retouching explained, change background using alpha channel and layer masks

Finally, after way to long time, I managed to get around and actually finish up this tutorial video I've been promising since this post .

I show and talk about how to use the alpha channel tools in Photoshop to build very good layer masks that can be used to replace or manipulate the background (or other selected parts of an image).

I'm not a very experienced videoblogger and the sound quality from my mic isn't the best, and on top of that Youtube managed to mess up the quality a bit when the file was uploaded, but that is all cosmetics. If you are having trouble masking out details in photoshop I'm sure you can learn alot from this vid, and that's why I published it. If something is unclear please let me know.

Best of luck with your projects, and if I actually manages to inspire or help you out, I would love to hear about and perhaps se the results (that would makes these efforts much more worthwhile). Read the full post

Ok, finally it is here, the Roskilde Festival B&W analogue photography series. Please click the read more link to view the full post.

I was very worried how this would turn out, especially since I decided to do the developing myself, but I'm crazy happy with the result. I can also brag (sort of) and tell you that in the end well over 200 out of the 216 frames I shot were totally useful images (I was hoping for maybe 50). One of the reasons I managed to get so many useful images is that you can push black & white images very much before they brake. And even when they start to break they look crazy cool.

For this project I was aiming for the very grainy, dirty, and messy kind of look, of course I am the first one to admit that this look doesn't work for every possible project, but I would argue that for a music festival of this caliber it is a perfect look.

P.S.
If (against high odds) you've found this blog and you can see your own face (or perhaps your hands protecting your face from my dangerous camera) on any of these images, please contact me. I would love to send you a high resolution file or perhaps even a print (free of charge of course). The idea of these images ending up in photo albums and on walls and stuff is just great in my mind. Your wall is just as important as the wall of som fancy gallery.

And also, if you like the pictures and want to see more, go ahead and check out this Picasa web-album where I have uploaded even more images.
